WISHING WELL INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION SA EMBARKS ON EXPEDITION AROUND SA AND SWAZILAND TO BRING CLEAN DRINKING WATER TO COMMUNITIES THAT NEED IT MOST

More than 884 million people around the world do not have access to safe, clean water, while over 1,6 million children die each year from waterborne diseases. These are shocking statistics that Wishing Well International Foundation SA (WWIFSA) is working to change by bringing clean, purified water to communities in need around the world through its many activity, notably its upcoming 10-1-10 Africa Expedition.

The 10-1-10 Africa Expedition is an annual two-week event in South Africa and Swaziland where representatives and sponsors of WWIF SA travel in a convoy of 4×4 vehicles to establish water filtration systems in communities without clean water. The event provides an extraordinary opportunity for donors and sponsors to see the direct impact of their giving.

The adventurous campaign begins on Friday 25 August 2017 in Johannesburg. Those who join the expedition as a Deployment Team Member will travel in a convoy of 4×4 vehicles across southern Africa, deploying dozens of biofoam water filters in communities that lack clean, safe drinking water. The expedition ends nine days later on Sunday 3 September 2017.

The WWIF’s May 2016 Africa Expedition brought clean drinking water to up to 2,000 people, with all other funds dedicated 100% to future filter deployments. In addition to South Africa, WWIF has done work in the Dominican Republic, Ghana, Haiti, Peru and Japan to name a few.

With just a few short weeks left before the expedition departs, WWIF South Africa now needs to raise funds to buy the water filter systems. WWIF SA is calling on South African companies to become corporate sponsors.

Beyond the intangible rewards of providing clean water to those who need it, the event is a unique opportunity to bring attention and publicity to any company that wants to join the cause for clean water.

“The goal is to provide safe, clean drinking water for 50,000 people

over a 10-year period.

“The 10-1-10 Africa Expedition was designed as a fund raiser and brings some of our members so they can see firsthand the work we do while enjoying beautiful Africa. Our goal is not only for our guests to enjoy your beautiful country but also experience the joy of giving so they can become ambassadors to the organization,” says Tony Marchesini, WWIF South Africa Founder and Managing Director/Franchisor of H2O International SA.

What does 10-1-10 mean? For just US$10 (R150) we can supply one person with clean disease free water for 10 years. The goal is to provide safe, clean drinking water for 50,000 people over a 10-year period.

About the water filter technology

Our Hydraid Biosand filters are a simple yet effective method for reducing bacteria and viruses in water. They use gravity rather than pressure or electricity to pass the water through the filtering media. After installation, each UD$100 filter can be used by at least 10 people for 10 years. The affordability, ease of use and minimal maintenance of the Biosand and Biofoam filters make them the most proven and sustainable filtration methods for rural areas.

Improving quality of life

A low-technology water filter in a community creates a drastic improvement in the quality of life for the locals who live there. Instead of having to travel for longer distances to find a less-polluted water source, families can drink and cook with filtered water that comes from a closer body of water. The removal of bacteria and viruses in this water not only helps to avoid diseases, but it enables families to spend more time together, time that would otherwise be spent looking for cleaner water.
