A bold new Afrikaans comedic thriller, Tronk met ’n D, is set to captivate audiences with its dazzling blend of satire, dark humour, music, and deadly charm.

Written by Braam van der Vyver and directed by Lihan Pretorius and Johan van der Merwe, this stylish production takes audiences deep into a world of prison bars, high heels, poison murders, and dangerous women.

The production features a powerful ensemble cast consisting of Elzabè Zietsman, Ignatius van Heerden, and André Lötter, each portraying multiple colourful and unforgettable characters. The visual world of the production is further enhanced by costume design from Madelaine Lötter, where glamour and prison aesthetics collide in dramatic fashion. Set design by Ignatius van Heerden and set construction by JP Enginering.

The story follows the beautiful social butterfly, Leksie Pieterse (Ignatius van Heerden), who is sentenced to 20 years in prison for the poisoning of her wealthy sugar daddy, Bakkies Barnard. Behind bars, she is forced to share a cell with Cruella Barnard (André Lötter), Bakkies’s widow, and the infamous Daisy de Melker (Elzabè Zietsman) — the legendary poisoner who, according to history, should have been dead long ago.

When Leksie discovers that her cunning lawyer is leading a double life, a dangerous game of revenge, manipulation, and exposure begins. With the help of detective Wihan Beyleveld, the women must decide: how do you destroy a man’s reputation… from behind bars?

Tronk met ‘n D offers a unique theatrical experience filled with sharp satire, brilliant ensemble moments, and dark comedy that perfectly balances laughter and suspense. The production explores themes of guilt, power, manipulation, and female survival — all wrapped in glamorous theatricality.

This production promises to be one of the most original and talked-about Afrikaans stage experiences of the year.
