Puss in Boots is no ordinary cat! Especially when she teams up with our hero Jack. Aimed at children age 3 and up, this is a delightful reimagining of an old tale.
Following the resounding success of Peter Rabbit and Me as told by Beatrix Potter, National Children’s Theatre is happy to bring a new show to our fantastic outdoor IMAGINATION THEATRE.
It’s the story of an old miller with three sons, and when the miller dies, he leaves the eldest son the farm, his second son the mill, and the third son, Jack, a pair of boots and a cat. The brothers are nasty, and chase Jack and the cat off of the property. Feeling very miserable and sorry for himself Jack tells the cat he has fallen in love with the King’s beautiful daughter, never expecting a response. But what luck! This Puss can not only understand, but can also talk. And the first thing she asks for is the pair of boots which Jack readily gives her because they fit Puss perfectly.

With no food, no money, and no place to live, and even worse, no prospects, Jack is very downcast. But not for long. Puss is enterprising, full of ideas and plans, and, to Jack’s amazement, determined that her new master will attain a fortune and a title and marry the beautiful princess. And as Jack discovers, once Puss has her boots on, nothing can stop her!
And so begins their adventure. But will Puss really succeed? After all, Jack is only a Miller’s son, with no money, no clothes, no plans for the future? And as Jack discovers, there is an evil Wizard to contend with. How on earth will he succeed in obtaining the King’s permission to marry his daughter?
Of course all children are familiar with Puss, from Disney’s Shrek’s swash-buckling sidekick. But here is the original Charles Perrault fairy tale adapted by Joyce Levinsohn and given new life in this stage version by Ivor Jones and Sarah Roberts.
Directed and Choreographed by Ivor Jones, this show will entertain and amuse from the word go.
Set and Costumes are by Sarah Roberts and Musical Direction is by Christine Ludwig. In the cast are Nathan Hammond, Jay Hlatshwayo, Laura Nell Kleynhans, Thokozani Jiyane, and Nomakhosi Mkhonza.
This show really is the cat’s whiskers! So book now for this purrr-fect family treat! All covid-19 protocols to be strictly adhered to.
