The third Aardklop Aubade classical music concert entitled the “Prince & the Piano” featuring internationally acclaimed concert pianist Megan-Geoffrey Prins will be presented in partnership with “Affies”, the Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool in the school hall on Sunday, 18 April 2021. Born in Riversdal, Western Cape, the highly talented pianist Megan-Geoffrey Prins made his concert debut at age eleven. Celebrated for his technical prowess, imaginative interpretation and captivating sensitivity, Prins enjoys a dynamic career as soloist, chamber musician, and lecturer. He currently serves as full-time piano lecturer on the faculty of the University of Pretoria: School of the Arts.

Prins has performed as a soloist with numerous international orchestras in Germany, the USA, Botswana and at home in South Africa. His performances of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concertos Nos. 2 and 3 were praised by German and South African critics for its “technical precision,” “artistic expressivity,” and “transcendent” interpretation. In 2019, Prins was named the Standard Bank Young Artist for Music. Local achievements include first prizes at the UNISA 120th Anniversary Competition, the inaugural Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival Competition, the 5th UNISA National Piano Competition, the 2016 Muziq Instrumental Competition, and the 2017 SAMRO Overseas Scholarships Competition. The “Prins” of the piano – indeed!

In this special concert patrons can look forward to a brilliant performance of Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No.23, Liszt’s Mephisto Waltz No. 1 and Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker OP 71a. Prins will also perform a selection of audience favourites requested via the Aardklop Nasionale Kunstefees Facebook page. The varied programme will begin with a 10-minute pre-concert performance by one of the talented Affies learners, Wentzel Lotriet on cello accompanied by Engeli le Roux.
