Mekete. Manyalo. Mafu. is a sketch comedy show starring the THENX Ladies, a sketch comedy collective that uses satire, parody and pastiche to reflect the current state of the nation.
In the show, “the Triple M Mammmas”, who are the founders of a local stokvel that caters at Mekete, Manyalo le Mafu, serve their award winning dish: NNETE (Truth).

If you’re an improvisor at the beginning of their journey, or have been out of the game a while and wanna get back in… we’re getting together for a 3 week IMPROV for INTERMEDIATES course.
In this 3 week course, we extend the exploration and play. Through exercises and games, we will refresh the fundamentals of improv and really get down to the nitty gritty of storytelling and scene work.
Each 2.5hr session promises to engage and entertain as you surprise yourself with boldly taking your improv skills where they’ve never been before. *** NB : all participants must know the basic rules of improv / have improv experience.
Dates: 18 March, 25 March and 1 April (must be available for all 2 of the 3 dates)
Time: 10am – 12:30am
Venue: The Studio, Dowerglen (Safe parking available)

Fee: R1500 for 3 sessions, R 1100 for 2 sessions (Upfront payment).

A charming musical journey through two prolific careers in the South African entertainment industry.This piece stars Fiona Ramsay & Tony Bentel, who have worked together on several projects over many years and is a celebration of some of the work that they have enjoyed most and want to share with new and old audiences alike.Featuring music & excerpts from well known musical theatre classics, as well as original songs from the pair’s collaborations, this witty and heartwarming piece is a must for theatre lovers of all generations. Seamlessly stringing together the various roles they have played throughout the years, it takes it’s audience on a journey through the trials and successes of years in South African entertainment.

The highly anticipated celebratory coming of age story, Born Naked, returns to POPArt for a quickie this March.Born Naked, inspired by many true stories, follows two young drag queens and their journeys of becoming. It centres around the character Blaq Widow and her impactful relationship with her drag mother, Queen Bling. Traveling in time, it tracks Blaq Widow on her journey on trains, to drag pageants, inside back rooms and dressing rooms. It is a complex story layered with glitz, glamour, eleganza and the intricacies of two people navigating their way through vibrant, colourful, and sometimes violent spaces in South Africa.

Under the careful direction of Kirsten Harris, Donovan Yaards and Lethabo Bereng, bring the celebratory and painful coming of age story, Born Naked, to the AFDA Red Roof Theatre
