All is not as it seems at the De Waal Theatre Agency. On a dark and stormy night, well-known businessman and impresario, Du Toit De Waal (played by Deon Lotz) lies sprawled across an office table with a dagger in his back – bloody and limp. Not that his gossiping receptionist, Bonnie van der Byl (Lizz Meiring) has Screen Shot 2017-01-24 at 7.50.18 PMnoticed anything. In her usual fashion, she is babbling away on the telephone, oblivious to the drama about to unfold. When she eventually does notice the body, she phones the police, just before fainting at the sight of all that blood. But when she comes to, with Constable Mickey Mentz’s (Andre Weideman) flashlight in her face, the body has disappeared…

The stage is set for the fast-paced thriller-comedy that follows. The interplay between the irrepressible Bonnie and the bumbling, grumpy Captain Hendrik Greyling (Louw Venter), who spends the duration of the film in a brain fog of flu, leads the viewer through the twists and turns of a typical ‘whodunit?’. Bonnie’s parrot, Napoleon, is also there to offer wry commentary on the unfolding events.

As all the possible suspects are interviewed in the confined office space, the atmosphere becomes more and more oppressive as more secrets are revealed. The newly widowed and attractive, Cecilia de Waal (Dorette Potgieter) has more than one lover; prissy personal secretary, Miss Enith Conradie (Lida Botha) has long been in love with the boss; the young, attractive, bubble-brained Roxie Roos (Lare Birk) has been a reluctant “bit of skirt” to the overbearing boss. Charming Percy Cilliers (Geon Nel) is totally useless and doesn’t do a stitch of work and the old office clerk, Harold Berrington-Smith (Flip Theron), is a “tail gunner”. As this storm of accusation, counter-accusation and recrimination gathers force in the confines of the claustrophobic office, suddenly the boss re-appears on the scene – unscathed, strong and hearty!

But then things take an even more sinister turn when the body of Cecilia’s lover, Jacques Petout (Jacques Theron) is found in the dunes with a knife in his back. Another victim collapses in the office lift right in front of Bonnie’s desk.

As self-appointed investigator, Bonnie delights in getting ‘one-up’ on the sick, feverish Captain Greyling at nearly every turn, coming up with vital clues like a mobile, a key and even a bloodstained message. But Bonnie’s schemes backfire on her when she finds herself being strangled with a computer cable while Greyling struggles to escape from a locked cupboard.
