National Children’s Theatre is thrilled to announce the opening of our new outdoor theatre: the INSPIRATION theatre. Moira Katz, CEO of National Children’s Theatre says that after three years of scheming and planning and fundraising, we can now celebrate the materialization of a dream. with the opening of the theatre and an exciting new production of Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox.

We are thrilled to have obtained the rights to stage Roald Dahl’s delightful story, Fantastic Mr Fox, from 28 November through the school holidays until 23 December 2020. This classic children’s book has stood the test of time and is still as popular today as when it was first published over 50 years ago. And it loses none of its appeal in this fun dramatization for the stage by David Wood.

Mr Fox needs chickens to feed his family – but When Mr Fox steals one chicken too many, three farmers: Boggis, Bunce and Bean (one fat, one short, one lean), and just about the meanest men you will ever encounter, decide the only cure is to rid themselves of Mr Fox by any means possible. They are ready to shoot him, starve him or dig him out, but clever Mr. Fox has other plans.

Outwitted at every turn, the farmers’ ploys backfire as Fantastic Mr Fox devises a plan which will ensure full stomachs for not only his family, but also for all his friends. And they celebrate with a sumptuous feast at the farmers’ expense.

Roald Dahl’s hilarious tale of ingenuity, inventiveness and resourcefulness is a treat for young and old alike. Sandi Dlangalala leads a stellar cast, all eager to please audiences after the theatre’s long absence in 2020.

This is an exciting time at NCT as we hone in on this final production of the year.  It’s a first for the play to be staged professionally in South Africa and a first for NCT in our new outdoor theatre. And with all Covid19 protocols observed we have room for everyone on the grass and under the trees.

This is a must-see treat for the whole family!
