We are thrilled to announce that Cheers to Sarajevo will be back for an exclusive run at a Pop Up Theatre in Wynberg- “The Pitika Ntuli Studio” No. 37, 6th Street, Wynberg Johannesburg.
We are very honoured to be in partnership with esteemed author Anne Marie Du Preez Bezrob for this run. Amongst many of her other critically acclaimed books, Sarajevo Roses details her first-hand account of the Bosnian war as a United Nations political and information officer. Her experience in Bosnia has been an invaluable addition to the authenticity & endorsement of Cheers to Sarajevo. 
As we are now approaching the 20th year commemoration of the Bosnian war; Anne Marie has generously offered to include her collection of original war artifacts to our new Memorial Exhibition, which will be open for audiences for the first time in October!
Context:
The early 1990s. Yugoslavia is teetering on the brink of war as the different republics elect independence from the Federation of Yugoslavia. Where religions, cultures and languages once represented the country’s rich diversity now becomes the catalyst for conflict, violence and unimaginable atrocities. Bosnia-
It is in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia, where the story unfolds.
Story:
Peter, a 27-year old South African photographer, leaves South Africa in the transitional period from apartheid to democracy, to seek the photograph that will make him famous. His journey becomes one of survival. When he is separated from his team his search for them takes him through the Bosnian capital, Sarajevo. Here he takes a photograph of Mirela, a 26-year old Bosnian woman and Aleksander, a 30-year old Serbian soldier. Aleksander and Mirela are having a forbidden love affair and Peter uses his photograph of them as blackmail to coerce Mirela into being his guide to find his team.
Before they are able to leave the city, Sarajevo is besieged and the characters find themselves at the centre of the war. Friendship, love and loyalty are questioned. Aleksander’s unquestioning Serbian nationalism is confronted by Mirela’s Bosnian acceptance and tolerance within the most basic form of human interaction – love.
