Cape Town duo ACOUSTIC ELEMENT have released their new single FOR THE DAY, which features former X-Factor winners, FOUR.
Cousins Callen Petersen and Jody Abel, have combined their musical talents; Callen plays the violin, and Jody plays guitar and beatboxes, make up the dynamic musical duo.
But who are these two talents?
We got to know them with 5 simple questions:
- What made you both decide to join forces and form Acoustic Element?
“The greatest part is that we never decided. It just happened. One Christmas Day, in 2010 we had both received new instruments as gifts from our parents. This inspired two relatively random cousins to start playing together. We’ve been at it for just over 5 years now. It’s been an amazing journey.”
- You can play many different genres and styles, but what is your favourite style/genre to play and why?
“If pop is still a style, it’s that. We love what’s hot on radio – and right now it’s Tropical House. That’s pretty much our buzz right now.”
- Writing acoustic music must be quite challenging – how do you go about writing your music?
“We go about it in a very organic way. The production of the beat is the first challenge of each of our songs. The music comes organically after that. We basically give each other the stage to show off our ideas – it’s really the best part of our job.”
- What inspired ‘For the Day’?
“The song was inspired by a few good friends wanting to make a song with a good vibe. We actually envisaged a drive along the coast on a Sunday afternoon with good mates and chilled vibes. Hope we got that right!”
- Why did you decide to bring FOUR on board?
“We actually met up with them at Shimmy Beach Club in the summer. We’ve known the guys for a while, and funny enough, Jody went to high school with David, they were classmates!”
